Texas Country Dressing

Here's how my momma makes dressing. (Also called "stuffing"). There are dozens of ways to do it. This is the kind I grew up eating, so as far as I'm concerned, it's the best way to make it. Although I enjoy other kinds.

3 cups crumbled cornbread (see Texas Country Cornbread)
2 cups crumbled biscuits
3/4 cup chopped onions
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
enough chicken broth to wet it good

Mom has no idea how much broth she uses. I watched her make it, and I have no idea, either. It didn't occur to me that she was eye-balling it, or I would have paid more attention! The only help she could give me was "make it about as thick as cornbread batter." Okay, you've got to make the cornbread first, so pay attention! Then make the dressing about the same thickness!

mix the ingredients.

bake it for 45 minutes at 350-degrees F.

serve with baked chicken or turkey.
